PRE-CHECK

HINT:  When the warning light lights up, immediately check the air pressure of the tire and adjust it to the specified pressure. If the vehicle is driven at more 18 mph (30 km/h) after adjustment, the warning light goes off.

This system needs initializing after changing tires or wheels and rotating tires.

In the following cases, system might not operate normally.

  1. INSPECT TIRE PRESSURE WARNING LIGHT OPERATION

When the ignition switch is turned ON, check that the tire pressure warning light goes on for 3 seconds.

HINT:  If the indicator check result is not normal, proceed to troubleshooting for the tire pressure warning light circuit.

  1. INSPECT ABS SPEED SENSOR

  2. INSPECT TIRE PRESSURE WARNING STANDARDIZATION SWITCH OPERATION (CHECK MODE)

  1. Turn the ignition switch OFF.

  2. Using SST, connect terminals Ts and E1 of the DLC1 or Ts and CG of the DLC3. SST 09843-18020 or 09843-18040

    1. Start the engine.

    2. Check that the ABS warning light blinks.

HINT:  It the ABS warning light does not blink, inspect the ABS warning light circuit.

  1. When press the tire pressure warning standardization switch and check that the tire pressure warning light flashes 3 times then it goes off.

HINT:  If the tire pressure warning light does not light, inspect the tire pressure warning light circuit and tire pressure warning standardization switch circuit.

  3. INSPECT SKID CONTROL ECU

  4. SYSTEM INITIALIZATION

HINT:  It is necessary to perform the initial setting of system when tire and wheel have been replaced or tire rotation has been done.

    1. Adjust the air pressure of 4 tires to the specified pressure .

    2. With the ignition switch ON and the vehicle stopped, press the tire pressure warning standardization switch until the warning light flashes 3 times.

2004 Solara

IF THE LOW TIRE PRESSURE WARNING LIGHT COMES ON OR BLINKS WHILE DRIVING, DO THE FOLLOWING.

If the warning light comes on:

  1. Adjust the tire inflation pressure to the specified level as soon as possible.

  2. Push the tire pressure warning system reset switch for approximately one second and make sure the warning light goes off.

If the light remains on after the reset switch has been pushed, have the tire pressure warning system checked.

If you have a flat tire, replace it with the spare tire.

If the warning light blinks slowly (every 0.5 seconds) the low tire pressure warning system may be malfunctioning.

If the warning light blinks rapidly (every 0.25 seconds) the low tire pressure warning system needs to be initialized.

Reset the system with the tire pressure warning system reset switch.

TIRE PRESSURE WARNING SYSTEM RESET SWITCH

The tire pressure warning system needs to be initialized in the following conditions:

When initializing the system, the present tire condition is stored as a standard.

To initialize the system, perform the following:

  1. Park the vehicle at a safe place and apply the parking brake. Stop the engine.

  2. Adjust the pressure of all the installed tires to the specified level.

  3. Turn the ignition key to "ON".

If the Low Tire Pressure Warning Light blinks, push the reset switch for a few seconds and make sure the warning light goes off.

  1. Push and hold the reset switch until the Low Tire Pressure Warning Light blinks three times.

Initialization is completed after driving at the speeds of 30 km/h (19 mph) or over for more than one hour.

If the following driving conditions are satisfied, initialization will be completed in about one hour.

NOTICE:

When initializing the system, make sure the Low Tire Pressure Warning Light blinks three times. If the warning light does not blink three times, initializing will not occur and the tire pressure warning system will not function property.

Do not push the reset switch without adjusting the tire inflation pressure to the specified level. Otherwise, the Low Tire Pressure Warning Light may not come on even if the tire pressure is low, or it may come on when the tire inflation pressure is actually normal.

If you push the reset switch while the vehicle is moving, initialization is not performed.

If the Low Tire Pressure Warning Light does not blink when you push and hold the reset switch, have the low pressure warning system checked.

When the warning light blinks every 0.25 seconds while driving, you may be unable to reset the system. In this case, set the system again according to the procedure above.

To initialize the system, perform the following:

  1. Initialization is completed after driving at the speeds of 30 km/h (19 mph) or over for about 8 hours total, when the tire pressure warning system detects the normal tire pressure.

System Initialization Mode

To enable this system to detect a low tire pressure, the normal tire pressure of the tires on the disc wheels that the vehicle currently uses is stored in memory in the tire pressure monitor ECU. Therefore, if a tire or disc wheel is replaced or rotated, the ECU must be initialized. To do this, press the tire pressure warning reset switch that is located below the driver side of the instrument panel, which transfers the system to the system initialization mode and initializes the ECU.

The tire pressure monitor ECU can be initialized as follows:

  4. After finishing the above operation and start the usual driving, the ECU automatically stops the initialization and starts the tire pressure monitoring.

NOTE: Initialization is completed after driving at the speeds of 30 km/h (19 mph) or over for more than one hour.

If the following driving conditions are satisfied, initialization will be completed in about one hour.

Drive the vehicle at 30 km/h (19 mph) or more, to complete the initialization of the ABS ECU with actuator (it takes more than one hour).

  1. w/ VSC:

Drive the vehicle at 30 km/h (19 mph) or more, to complete the initialization of the skid control ECU with actuator (it takes more than one hour).

HINT:  If the tire pressure warning light blinks at 0.25 second intervals while the vehicle is being driven, the initialization may have failed. If so, preform the initialization again (turn the ignition switch OFF and retry from step 4-(a)).

  1. w/o VSC:

After initialization is completed, the ABS ECU monitors the tire pressure by using the wheel speed sensor.

  1. w/ VSC:

After initialization is completed, the skid control ECU monitors the tire pressure by using the wheel speed sensor.

  1. To verify that the system has been initialized, check the length of time that the tire pressure warning light is ON after the ignition switch is turned ON.

2005-2006 Sienna

INITIAL SETTING OF TIRE PRESSURE WARNING SYSTEM

  1. Check and adjust the tire air pressure to the specified value.

  2. With the vehicle stopped, turn the ignition switch ON.

  3. Press the tire pressure warning switch until the tire pressure warning lamp blinks 3 times at a 1 second interval. (Continue pressing the tire pressure warning switch for approximately 3 to 4 seconds.) (Receipt of the initialization signal.)

HINT:  When the tire pressure warning lamp does not blink, perform initialization again. (with the ignition switch off, perform the procedure above starting at step 5-(b).)

  1. Drive the vehicle and speed it up at 30 km/h (19 mph) or more, and then initialize when the skid control ECU to its initial condition. (It takes about 0.5 to 1.0 hour to complete the initialization depends on.)

HINT:  If the tire pressure warning lamp blinks at ›1m0.25 second›0m intervals while the vehicle is being driven, the initialization may be failed, so perform the initialization again. (Turn the ignition switch OFF and retry from step 5-(b).)

  1. After initialization, the skid control ECU monitors the decrease of the tire air pressure.

  1. INITIALIZATION

NOTICE: Initialization is necessary after replacing either the ECU, tires with different tire pressure or tire pressure monitor valve sub-assy, after rotating the tires, or when a new vehicle is delivered.

  1. Set the tire air pressure for all wheels, including the spare, to the specified value.

  2. Keep the tire pressure warning reset switch pressed for 3 seconds or more with the ignition switch on.

  3. Check that the tire pressure warning lamp blinks 3 times (1 second ON, 1 second OFF).

HINT:

      • Do not turn the ignition switch off during initialization (The initialization process takes about 20 minutes).

      • Initialization will be complete if signals are received from all the wheels including the spare. Initialization will be canceled if the ignition switch is turned off during initialization.

    1. Confirm that initialization is complete using the handheld tester.

    2. Check that the pressure for each tire is displayed in INIT THRESHOLD 1 to 5.

    3. Initialization is complete.  

2006 Prius

INITIALIZATION

  1. INITIALIZATION

NOTICE:

Front: 240 kPa (2.4 kgf/cm2, 35 psi)

Rear: 230 kPa (2.3 kgf/cm2, 33 psi)

  1. Keep the tire pressure warning reset switch pressed for 3 seconds or more with the power switch ON (IG).

  2. Check that the tire pressure warning light blinks 3 times at 1 second intervals.

HINT: The initialization is complete when the tire pressure warning ECU has received signals from all of the wheels.

  1. Wait for 2 or 3 minutes with the power switch ON (IG).

NOTICE:

  1. Confirm that the initialization has been completed using the intelligent tester.

  1. Change the mode to test mode using intelligent tester and check that test DTCs have been stored.

NOTICE: The following operations can be used instead of above procedure:

  1. Turn the power switch from OFF to ON (IG).

  2. Monitor the tire pressure values of all the wheels using intelligent tester.

  3. If the tire pressure values cannot be displayed on the intelligent tester screen, the initialization has failed.

  4. It takes 2 to 3 minutes to display the tire pressure data.

HINT: In winter, as the tire pressure may decrease depending on the ambient temperature increase the tire pressure by 20 kPa (0.2 kgf/cm2, 2.9 psi) to 30 kPa (0.3kgf/cm2, 4.3 psi) above the specified value after confirmation that the initialization has been completed.

    1. Initialization is completed.

2006 Landcruiser

INITIALIZATION

NOTICE:

  1. Set the tire air pressure for all wheels ( including the spare tire ) to the specified value.

  2. Keep the tire pressure warning reset switch pressed for 3 seconds or more with the ignition switch ON.
